Sir David Moxon, KNZM, Archbishop of Canterbury’s Representative to the Holy See and Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome
Image: Bishop David Moxon taken during the interview for Your Catholic Corner – in his office, Hamilton
This was the very first interview I conducted outside the radio station. It was done on very short notice and I’m convinced that Divine Intervention played the strongest of hands.
I attended the ecumenical Ash Wednesday 2013 service held at the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Hamilton. In his homily, Bishop David talked about his upcoming posting to Rome. He’d been appointed as the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Representative to the Holy See and Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome.
Bishop David was about to leave New Zealand for this appointment (3-5 years) and I wanted to interview him for Your Catholic Corner so more could hear about this amazing appointment (from li’l ole New Zealand!).
I happened to mention to others after the Ash Wednesday service what I wanted to do and was told I was crazy!… that Bishop David’s diary was booked months in advance and, besides, he was leaving for Rome in a few weeks… no chance!
However, I’m a ‘never say never’ kind of woman…
As soon as I got home from the Ash Wednesday service I emailed Bishop David’s PA asking whether an interview was possible…
The very next day I was in his office at 1pm (the only available gap in his schedule – wow!).
Because I’m sooo not techy I dragged Alan along with me.
I knew I would only get one shot at this interview so I had two smartphones (Alan’s and mine) + my recently-purchased super-sophisticated recording equipment (which I’ve never used since!) and my Sony video camera… there is a little bit of background hiss, but it doesn’t get in the way of what Bishop David has to say…
Alan and I spent an amazing, wonderful, special and very informative and humbling hour with Bishop David (now Sir David).
We both learnt heaps about the Catholic and Anglican faith relationship (listen to the interview – I think you might be surprised too).
I’m looking forward to doing a follow-up interview – whenever God is willing for that to be.

NB: This show was prepared for Your Catholic Corner (FreeFM89.0) and starts off with the show’s intro / anthem music (Salve Regina by the Benedictine Monks) of around 60 seconds.
Your Catholic Corner is one of the things I – Julie South – do when I’m not working.
My faith is important to me (in case you hadn’t guessed, I’m catholic).
Being on the team at Your Catholic Corner is something I feel very privileged and honoured to be a part of: I work alongside a great bunch of people and get to meet some awesomely, inspirational men and women.”
